Countdown to receiving new chicks on oct 9th week

Ya know the boys do seem to be more brave than the girls as chicks. The pullets I have are doing great, I didnt think that hatchery chicks would take off like they have. Today 2 weeks old and they have wings feathered out and tails half there and starting to feather down their backs and on their chests of course teh few exceptions becuase not every breed  grows the same, but even the ones that are not up with the rest are at least showing tail feathers. I was ready for weaker chicks, not as fast growing. This is my very first order from a hatchery and have heard the horror stories, but I will keep promoting Ideal Poultry because the chicks are strong and healthy and even the one that was weak I brought her back with help from people on here and the other one that is partially blind well that happens she is still just as strong and healthy as the others. I think it is a birth defect though because I can see how her eyes are misshappened. But she finds food and water scuffles with the rest of them and is actually the biggest of the bunch. Ok anyway I completely went off subject sorry guys,,, the little white pullet she is cute what breed?
She's a mix. Leghorn is in there somewhere.. Her father was a mixed breed frizzle. I bought 3 pullets as week olds in March. All 3 were girls. 2 are broody right now :p

If I had to choose a hatchery, I'd go with McMurray. Some of my birds have ancestors from there, and they are quite nice. :)

I went with Ideal because I wanted to order a small anount and the other ones I looked at that you can do small orders were super expensive and this time of year didnt have alot of variety. I was able to order a small amount, and it was only $40 for 10 pullets, I got what I wanted and even took a day to decide between a few, and they shipped one day early and got here in 2 days.. Since I have not ordered from any other hatchery I guess I cant say its my fav, but I was super happy with them. If I order next year I will order from them. I was kind of wanting to buy or trade with some people on here.

I'm really not sure on how much their costs are at McMurray, but their birds are actually nice quality. The EEs I have lay really blue eggs and he bought their grandparents from there a few years ago. The Houdans also. I've been told my pair are really good quality, and I even show them.

As long as you have healthy chicks, that's all that matters. Order from the hatchery closest to you as well, for the least stress during shipping.

The one closeset to me wont allow for small orders.. That is why I didnt go wit them. Ideal is in texas I am in missouri. But they flew them in and nobody was stressed. If you start with healthy breeding birds you get healthy chicks that will be hardy. But unless things fall thru I am asking around on here to see what varieties people have, I am hatching next year so I will also have those to trade with people.

Soooooo they are a week old and I adore them and want more....I been staying away from here for fear I might order some hatching eggs from a breeder lol....Ruth it's so hard. They have such cute little personalities...although the tapping on the glass is getting done by three of them now...they got a weed and grit yesterday...was amusing...
