Countdown to receiving new chicks on oct 9th week

The leg bands definitely aren't going over the top :p I haven't ordered these but I have been recommended to them by a breeder. They said they work best and are easy to put on. Skip the spiral ones, those are nasty! I feel like I'm breaking their little legs if I try to put it on :(
These are like small rubber bands, so are very safe. Cheap even!
Do you have two white(ish) chicks? I said one looked like a buff laced polish, but is it the same one I also said blue splash marans?

Only one ...the light ones are the easiest to differentiate ..the Ancona has a different personality then the others so far and I believe is the smallest...there is one who likes to peck at the side of the tank whom I'm afraid is going to get hurt doing that lol. ...two have adventured to climb on top of the ecoglow lol...should go buy some contact paper and shelf liner today.

Seeing the other picture, it is more likely a splash marans then.

Which one am I missing then.

1 barred rock
1 Australorp
1 Jersey Giant
1 RIR
1 Ancona
1 Golden Laced Wyandotte
2 Easter Eggers
1 Splash Marans

so 3 are missing.. You must have look alikes or haven't posted images of them yet. :p

Okay wait.. I have it under control. I see at least 3 Easter Eggers in this picture, with one possible EE. All the brown ones and the ones with chipmunk stripes. The one in the very centre could very well be a welsummer as well. If it is unbearded, I think it is a Welsummer :)

The EE on the far left that is silver with stripes that could be a silver laced wyandotte. as well as the one in the middle, Once you get some better pics of indivduals it will be easier. Try to get a side and top view so we can see teh patterns and legs.

Silver laced wyandottes don't have brown in their down :)

Here is a 2 week old Silver Laced Wyandotte. You can see the markings on her face. They are the most skittish chicks I've EVER owned. Also guessed it was EE based on personal experience :) If it is unbearded, I'd like another guess

I think I have more than two Easter eggers....I just tried to find bands...my husband is willing to stop at tsc but they don't have them there.......few more hours and I should have come extra hands to do individual shots

That saved my Eco, all they did was hang out on top of that thing. From day 1, it was their favorite thing to do, that and play fantasy Island with the huge clod of earth and weeds I put in there every day after a week old. Nice big ol shovel full of earth with a big dandelion weed in it... kept em busy for hours, and less pecking and bitching at each other.

Keep the pictures coming!

HHMM I didnt see the brown in it. I have 2 SLW chicks eight now so I know what the look like I couldnt see any brown from that pic. My experience with them has always been great and these 2 little ones i have are the first ones to run to my hand when it is placed in te box. I guess that tells how different individual genetic lines are.

I mark downy chicks on the head with Ctayola washable markers. No red, pink or orange cause the other will not stop picking at them, and not yellow cause you can't see it. On the head cause that feathers in last. Usually do same color on two different chicks, just different "temples" Atm, I have a left green and a right green bantam Cochin, for example.

When they start to get the "poof" of down, indicating that pins are starting to emerge and push the down off their heads, I use very small zip ties to band legs. Remove and replace as they grow.
