Here's a fun little distraction. My two young pullets - both born May 28th - will PROBABLY start laying sometime in mid-to-late October. At least that's my hope. Everyone who wishes to participate is welcome in this guessing game.

There's 2 different things to guess. 1) choose which one you think will lay their first egg first. 2) separately choose what day each will lay her first egg. It's totally fine if more than one of you seers choose the same day. You might both be right!

This is just for fun and whoever is closest gets nothing more than bragging rights.

The chicklet's names are Lilac, who is a Buff Orpington and Barracuda, who is an Easter Egger. They may be early or late but whose going to guess closest?

Good luck, everyone. Oh, and "before Columbus day" and "after Halloween" are both totally legitimate guesses.

My Buff Orpington hatched on April 28th and is a month older than yours and she still hasn't laid yet.

So I'm gonna say Barracuda, the EE, will lay first. My guess is September 25th.

Lilac the Buff Orpington will lay on . . . October 13th.

Do you have pictures of the pullets in question?

I'll take some pics tomorrow when they wake up - if they let me.
They've been here for a bit over a month. I got them to replace a Wyandotte that got her head stuck in the fence and.... 😢 Lose one, acquire two - perfectly logical chicken math. 😜
Anyway, integration has been slow because even though the ducks and the barred rock just accepted the littles from the beginning, the sex-linked has taken a while to not be a bugger towards them. She's coming around and they're becoming less flighty.
Doesn't help that they spent their first 9 weeks as part of a group of a couple dozen so didn't get any real one-on-one time with people. BUT I have food and I have patience.
In the meantime, last night they slept on top of the shade cloth. It was so adorable I just had to get a picture. Tonight they're actually sleeping INSIDE the coop. Of course, they've chosen a different bar to than the other two today on. Baby steps.
