Counterfeit $10.00 bill given to me!!!

WOW!!! I feel like I have been living under a rock because things like this just don't happen to me and I never thought to contact the police. I am ignorant to things like this. The cashier at Wal Mart pretended as if it didn't matter at all or like that was something that happens every day to her. She just gave it back to me and looked at me. She didn't even use the special marker to mark it to determine if it were in fact a counterfeit. She said that the marks that were already on the bill indicatd that it was marked. She said that someone had already marked it.

Counterfeit money is a crime so you all are right when you say that they should have called the police. I will go to the police station instead of calling them to report this.

If you did this & didn't MARK the bill as counterfeit in some way then it would probably be illegal.

If you chose to go this route, I think you'd need to write "Replica: Not Legal Tender" or something across the face of the bill. Even then, it might not be legal. It's been a long time since I learned about these issues (20+ years) and the laws have almost certainly changed since then.

(I had some classes way back then where we had FBI agents who came to class with an assortment of counterfeit money to teach us what to look for and talk about legal issues surrounding counterfeiting, etc. Obviously, a lot has changed in 20 years...)
