Counting the points on a cockerel's comb

Okay, so my cockerel should have 5-7 points. I confess: I don't know how to count points! If I count the blobs at the beginning and end of his comb, he's got too many (8). If not, he's okay. Please look at Francoise's comb, and tell me how to count the points:

I see 6. The standard for single combs is actually 5 - you do not include the front or rear blade.

Thanks so much, Jody! Good to know these things. This boy's a Copper Black Marans; I was told the standard calls for 5-7 spikes. I could have been told incorrectly, though. Thanks for your feedback!!
