Hey, y'all. My girls are 11.5 months old and have been eating Countryside Organics food. They started with the baby food and are now on the layer food. I've been perfectly happy with it, though it is a bit dusty.
I bought a new bag yesterday. I usually buy from my nearby Ace Hardware. This is the second or third bag I've gotten from them. Before, I was going out to a feed 'n'seed that's kind of inconvenient. Anyway, this bag smells funny. Usually, the food just has that nice fresh grainy smell. This bag smells very distinctly of dry cat food. It's pretty strong. The room the food was in smelled of it even before I opened the bag. Upon opening the bag, the food looks and feels normal. But it does smell like cat food. Perfectly fine, fresh cat food, but not the nice grainy way the previous bags have smelled.
I'm wondering if they've increased or changed the source of the fish product in the food. Or if it's due to the hot weather. If it spent some time in a warm delivery truck, maybe that caused a stronger odor? It was in my trunk for about an hour yesterday. It was overcast, though, with a high of 77, so that shouldn't have affected it.
Obviously, what I really need to know is whether or not this food is safe to feed my girls. I know moldy food is really dangerous. This does not smell like what I would think of as mold. But I don't know. Please help!
