County Fair is cruel to chickens.

Just got home from a very hot trip to a county fair. I was so excited to visit the poultry barn , to see all the different breeds of chickens they had. And yes they had some beautiful birds there. But I just wanted to let all of them loose out of those little tiny cages they were in! It was 92 degrees fans running everywhere but 95 percent of the birds were panting and stressed! 2 Birds to a cage they couldn't get away from each other. I left there very upset! I would never show my birds under those circumstances! I was so upset I forgot to take pics so I could post them here!

u should try to contact the head of the fair and complain. Ask the owners of the birds why they would do that to their poor chickens.

our fair was very sad for the birds too, the smell was terrible and the birds were covered in poo.

I went to my local ag and youth fair and most birds were two to a cage and one poor hen had most of her backside pecked away, skin too!

our's are in a covered area outdoors cages big enough for them to move around and only one per cage.

We went to another county fair today and that is the way the birds were there. 1 per cage, it was just as hot out but the birds were not near as stressed as the ones we saw yesterday. Hardly any of the birds were panting. I got pics this time but haven't downloaded them to the computer yet. I will post them as soon as I do.

Our fair is one bird per cage. As far as the heat and panting, well, my birds right here at home are doing that. You really can't make it cooler. Fans and misters are pretty standard and truthfully are more than my birds get at home.

Our fair board realized the poultry division was raking off massively (I think in part the push for local and organic food plus our local city now allows hens in the city limit with some regulations) and between the fair and 4h board they put up a second barn for more space. They also only have one bird per cage in most instances (they may have 3 bantams in a cage large enough for a turkey or goose to feel comfortable, so thy might be a little cramped but not overly so.

Poor chickens. I will never show my chickens at those fairs. I would contact someone about it.
