Do you think it would be a good or bad idea to bring chickens to a county fair? I want to bring my chickens there, but I think they might hate being in a cage for 5 days. I don't have chickens right now,but I know my previous chickens would have hated it.

My birds are used to being let out in their run everyday, but they went to the fair for 8 days and were fine in the show cages.

Good luck!

My birds are at chumung co fair right now, the care at the fair was wonderful they check and water the birds about every hour and wash out water cups every other day and you can pick grass for your chcickens after the judging if you want. Make sure to tell the person who is running the show so they dont freak out when they see wads of grass in with the bird. bring your own feed mix and dont forget to add grits as they wont be out running around.

Regular chcicken shows are one day 2 at the most event and you are in and out in one day , the competition can be pretty stiff at those shows. they have bigger better prizes and people travel far for them.

My favorite thing that happens at the chicken shows is that children who arnt used to being around chickens absolutly freak out when a chcicken lays an egg in thier pen, hee hee, one little girl came up to me and she said, help me, I said whats wrong sweetie, she said and her eyes were big as saucers, there is an egg over here, I had to explain to her that its perfectly OK, that just means that chicken is relaaxed and happy and most chcickens lay an egg every day, I took her around over to the ducks where one female had a clutch of 5 eggs in the corner, she was so freaked out by that. Kind of sad that people are so removed from farm animals these days. The more I explained to her that this was a good thing, and eggs dont grow in cartons at the super market the more she relaxed. Her mom didnt really know how this whole process worked either. Its a great educational tool for the public at large.
