Michael, I truly appreciate the input. The original plan was to have no more than 6 birds. The wife just couldn't resist. We will eventually however, thin and sustain a 6-8 bird flock.
They do in fact free range more days than not.
But, being concerned with space and overcrowding, I implemented several "features" taking advantage of the vertical space in the coop, not shown in the photos. Along each of the walls of the run, at varying heights and lengths, I installed perches set off of the walls with wooden brackets and 2x1s. This gives the birds plenty of space to spread out. At any given time there are 2-3 birds on these perches throughout the coop. Some dust bath, some peck, some hang out on the perches. I approached the coop/roost in a similar means. Multiple perches and varying heights.
Although not the "ideal/recommended" sg. ft. per bird, it is working thus far. Observation is key here obviously, and if issues arise I will certainly address them.
As to those curious about the flooring, we picked up the least expensive linoleum tile from the big box store for a total cost of $7.00. Makes it very easy to clean out and wash down.
