courtnics quail killing each other

How old are your quails? You can sex browns very easy visually. Females lack mottling on their chest, and on the converse, males have mottling on their chest.

In regards to no signs of aggression, dont take that as everything will be ok forever. Things may be fine for a week, maybe a month, or maybe even 3 months, but one day you will come up and find one hiding in the corner, barely hanging on to life from being beat up so bad. And most of the time once blood is seen, all of the birds will peck at it almost out of instinct due to the contrast in color. It's best to play it safe and get the ratios right as soon as possible.

Sorry for the delay in responding....been a busy couple of weeks here. As you indicted would occur, I came home and one of my hens had a pretty nasty gash. We quarantined her with a hide and a bedding section. A couple days later is is doing wonderful.
Several of the males were getting pretty aggressive so I culled 5 and began the ratio split. I have a 3:1 (f/m) in one pen, a 1:1 in another and 2 more males on deck for processing. I am holding off to make sure my pairing will work out.
The injured female is still solo and will be moved to the 3:1 in a few more days. We will monitor her situation and if it won't work there I'll assign her a remaining male. I saw how vicious they can get! The advice here is priceless for a "newbie" such as my self.
Many thanks!

(Quail are 6 weeks today)
