Hello all,

I was pondering the answer of covering the whole brooder box for my chicks, or only part?

Any response will be appreciated!

That would depend on how high the edge is and if your chicks can jump that high yet

Once they figure out how to fly, you'll probably appreciate having the whole brooder top covered.

What size is your brooder?

If it's large, you could make individual sections to keep it covered.

Here's a pic of my small hospital brooder cover, it's a 1" x 2" frame with 1/4" hardware cloth stapled to it.

Hope this helps!

It is about a foot high, a foot wide, and maybe 4 and a half feet long for 26 layers I get next weekend. Would two plastic lids do the job of keeping them warm for their first week?

they will be out of 1 ft high in a few days.. If you have cats or other nuisance animals around you might want to keep them out as much as you want to keep the birds in..
