I love the website with the dry creek bed landscaping ideas -- thank you so much -- unsure of what hubby will think about shovelling all that rock. LOL!

I know that there are varying opinnons about spending $$$ on coops/using recycled materials. But, if you were in my situation with the dream home you've just built only a few paces away, you may find that you want something attractive that would not deter from the visual appeal. I was willing to fund that, and I understand that some are not as OCD as me about appearances.

As far as termites in Iowa, we had the ground area treated before we built the house even though there was no sign of those pests on the farm. It was about $500 to have a large area of ground treated. Iowa is probably less suseptible than warmer climates, but am unsure of that.

Beyond that... still need help.... what color???? Barn Red, or same as the house (slate green/buff trim). The building is close, about 100 yards.

I say go with the house colors, but possibly reverse them, buff with slate green trim. How would that look?

Love the 'coop' - very nice. I'm in line with you in that I like things to look nice if you can see them around the house.

Your bil is nice looking - he should have no problem finding someone to comfort him.

Beautiful coop. We just finished our second coop in the back yard of our dream home which we built. We opted to side it with the same color siding and trim as the house. We plan on living here for many years to come, but since we see it out our window and off our deck every day we made it look like just a nice outbuilding (with a big chicken run). I'm sure it will look great whatever color you choose.
