Covered litterbox as a nesting box?

I have regular nesting boxes (4 of them), & I stuck my cleaned up kitty litter box on the floor just for the heck of it. Two of my 14 pullets now use it exclusively. The rest use the wooden nesting boxes. I did put some heavy bricks on it to keep it from tipping over. One of my EEs & my Delaware uses it.

Yep I've been using them for years. They are actually the only nestbox I provide...

They are extremely useful for moving a broody hen- just lift whole thing and move to isolate her and nest away from all other hens.

easy to clean.

one con is lately the new litterboxes are coming in thinner weaker plastic material so they don't last very long especially with direct sunlight exposure. Need to get the giant ones for especially large/heavy hens(freedom rangers-8-11 lb hens...) or just plain awkward hens(like shamo- they cannot turn easily in smaller confines)
Are baby chicks able to get out of them? My hen has just hatched some chicks and I was wondering if they would be qble to get out of the litterbox ok.
