Covering Run

Good evening Flock!

My hubby and I have a good plan underway for our coop and run. However I’m still trying to figure out what I should cover the run with that is a bit more cost effective. The run will be made out of t-posts and hardware cloth 1/2 inch. I really don’t want to cover the entire top with that and get something a bit cheaper if there is even such a thing. We do have predators that include red foxes, raccoons, coyotes, and hawks! But will do what ever to keep my flock safe.

Are you going to lock them in the coop at night? If so I’d use poultry netting.

I was debating back and forth to locking them in at night, but I think I'm leaning more to that option. I would prefer to know they are locked inside. Now the next question how do I 'train' them to come in at night? LOL

When you first move them into the coop, keep them locked in there for a few days. After that, open up the pop door to the run and let them come out when they're ready. For the first few nights you might have to go out at dusk and remind them to go back inside, but after that they should instinctively go back in at night.
