Covid-19 & Chickens

New CDC info is saying that it's much less spread on surfaces than previously thought. Again, I don't think anyone knows a lot for sure at this point still. Lots of guessing and misinformation swirling around. So I would just do that which you feel comfortable and safe doing. Adding stress to an already stressful situation isn't good for any of us.

Good to know! But yeah, I agree. I think it’s highly unlikely it would be spread by chickens.

Is it possible that chickens may carry the Covid-19 virus and transfer it to their flock and flock owners? and vice versa? I am worried about buying chicks from a feed store, where there are people who cannot practicing social distancing when handling the chicks.

Who said you this? I wrote a whole article on this matter it's impossible absolutely no no no Covid is a different strain which is only comes from bats to humans to humans .

I don't think covid came from bats ,I think it is from vaccines or something of that sort , I think your chickens are fine , good luck

I think that the chickens themselves are not a transmission issue. I would be more concerned about being in some of those stores with a bunch of people crowding around. We have gotten chickens 3 times during this. Once in March at Tractor Supply and again in early May at Tractor Supply and at Rural King. TSC wasn’t very crowded but the second time there were a few others there getting chickens and the clerk said it had been pretty steady with customers. Rural King was a different story, My wife waited in there for an hour and a half and she said that people were crowding around the chickens and clerks and were not taking precautions. She said she tried to stay out of the way of people and that it was a madhouse. People were lined up waiting and some were cutting in front of others.

Yeah, I wasn't sure at the time. When I made the post there wasn't a lot of data either way. We were all sheltering in place due to local health orders amid rising covid cases in our area.

After a lot of research, we bought our chicks from a local NPIP hatchery that had an online order form and contactless pickup area for customers with pre-arranged appointnent times. We wore masks, brought hand sanitizer, lysol disinfectant, and had wipes to clean our hands and surfaces.

I am so grateful forthis forum. I nearly had a close call buying possibly sick Silkies with mites from a breeder on Craigslist.
