I'd have a setup like this in your pen- that way he can get away from the side with the hens near it, instead of needing to sit and be picked on. The food also won't be right there for the hens to try to get.

How big are these 'wire cages'? They should be large enough that the rooster can get away if being pecked through the wire. How large is the main pen? Measure in meters, feet, inches, centimeters, etc. but not just "medium size" or "small"He was separated from them by a wire cage and they were trying to attack him throw it, they get envious of his food even if they have too much
It wasn't a good experience, feels like worse than letting him be with them
I will isolate him with the friendly hen then reintroduce another hen after a while
Love this- and shocked 56 hens and many roosters - how much space is needed to keep that brood happy!Awww, poor guy...I have a soft spot for Brahama roosters as I have 2 brothers (adults) and they are just so sweet and mild tempered. BUT, they do hold their own against 2 other alpha roosters and keep 56 hens safe, 'satisfied' and 'fertilized' so like everybody says, give him time and introduce the girls slowly.
My two don't have a thought behind those eyes though, bless their sweet hearts....

Oh boy, not only space but time....but I guess only if you care about a happy brood, and well...I care maybe a little TOO much, lol. But you know what they say....Happy Brood=Happy Chicken Keeper Mood (I just made that upLove this- and shocked 56 hens and many roosters - how much space is needed to keep that brood happy!
for original poster- I kept my hens and rooster separated but they were able to see each other. When the rooster crows I started to introduce them.
good luck!
