Coworkers and other walking zombies

Fire her and hire my daughter in her place. DD just graduated college and is having a terrible time finding work. That kid is so motivated you would never have to worry again. She is such a hard driver that she graduated with a double major in 3 1/2 years. It always irks me when a stupid person is employed and some like DD can't find a job.

She is looking for anything. Her majors are political science and economics. She has worked her way through college with student loans, help from Mom and Dad and a variety of part time jobs. Through most of her college she had 2 jobs at once and would work 30 - 35 hours a week.

As far as the OP's co-worker, I say that bad employees are like bad roosters. There are too many good ones available to bother with the really bad ones.

Lazy or zombie co-workers are a tough issue. Complaints to the supervisor sometimes bring more stuff down on you than on them. If you are her supv, then you can do something. Otherwise all you can safely do is let her dig her hole. Sometimes the supervisor interprets your complaint as an inability to play well with others. They don't always see the situation as you do.

Good luck.

Oh man! Never even thought of that! Now I really don't know what to do. Just keep notes on everything and hope for the best.

Yeah, but you said your supervisor was aware of the problem and had talked to her about it. So you shouldn't be coming across as the bad guy here. I had to deal with a situation kind of like this once and it was very ugly. My dept ended up losing a very good employee (ME!) because of a very bad one. I left.

I'd sit down at some point with your supervisor and ask him/her how they would like you to handle instances of the coworker asking you to do her job. This way you're not complaining, you're asking for guidelines on what YOU should do. (You already have down pat "document, document, document.") Then follow through. Good luck!
It's not a fun situation.

I just wish I could understand the problem. You have a checkoff sheet of documentaion you need to have. If the list is not completely checked off- your not done. Simple to me- what the heck!!

teh guy that had my job before me was like this. Couldnt wrap his mind around it I guess. My dh's company is letting someone like this go in May. They gave her a choice. Leave now and get a months severance or stick it out and hope the job market improves by May.
I hope she is saving her paychecks:rolleyes:

If your supervisor knows about this problem you have to say something.
Everyone in the office more than likely knows.

In todays economy anyone that has a job, should be doing the job extra well so they can hold onto that job!
I wish I lived near you, I need a job desperately!

I don't think it is a case of not understanding, more of a case of not caringor just plain laziness.

Document, Document, Document. E mail is a great way to do this. E mail the problem employee stating the problem and send a copy to the supervisor. Print copies of the e mails and maintain them in a separate folder.

This shows that you recognized the problem and attempted to resolve it. It also demonstrates that the supervisor was well aware of the situation. You have to cover your back side first.

Sometimes, there are employees that are "immune" for one reason or another. They can't be made to work and they can't be fired. They may be in a relationship with someone important or be related to somone important. They may have dangerous information and know where the bodies are buried.

When the stuff hits the fan, they are not the one that will be going out the door. Protect yourself.
