The Gun Thread

My Dad found this in a field when he was a kid. Springfield model 86. Later than 1948, so it was a fairly new gun when he got hold of it. .22 bolt action. He said it used to have an iron ring when he was a kid and he broke it off the barrel.

Very cool guns! I like single action revolvers but that old A-5 is definitely my favorite. My dad inherited his dad's 1954 Belgium made A-5. Think he bought it brand new for $50 if I remember correctly. I've shot quite a few ducks with it. He has a rifled slug barrel and I would like to shoot a deer with it one day.

John Moses Browning is the greatest firearm designer to ever live. Check out 1911 pistols, they're my favorite of his designs. Some of the best competition pistols money can buy (called 2011's) are based off his 100+ year old design...

Learning a hard lesson today: plastic guns suck. Got a 22 mag KelTec and the husband modified it to correct jamming problems—spent tons of time on it—and not only does it still jam but the sights broke off after about 20 rounds today. Boy do I feel stupid not listening to him in the first place when he said plastic guns suck

Ooh a gun thread! I’m currently going through the application process for my firearms license here in NZ, but I go out on the farm with my girlfriends dad to help with pest control using .22’s, rabbits, pukeko’s (swamphen, really good at putting holes in the silage cover, hence they get controlled). There are red and fallow deer on public land within an hour or so of my house, so I will get either a .270 or some form of 7mm rifle eventually as well.
