My Dad found this in a field when he was a kid. Springfield model 86. Later than 1948, so it was a fairly new gun when he got hold of it. .22 bolt action. He said it used to have an iron ring when he was a kid and he broke it off the barrel.

Nothin' to do with being plastic, everything to do with being cheap and a funky design. Guessing it was a PMR30. Designing a box magazine that holds much more than 10 rounds of a rimmed cartridge is a very tricky proposition. I'd be curious to hear what he did to "modify" it.Learning a hard lesson today: plastic guns suck. Got a 22 mag KelTec and the husband modified it to correct jamming problems—spent tons of time on it—and not only does it still jam but the sights broke off after about 20 rounds today. Boy do I feel stupid not listening to him in the first place when he said plastic guns suck
He put a bunch of new parts on that aren’t plastic (trigger, safety, etc). I got an auto-loader (which is supposed to help) and even metal magazines. I think he even took a dremel to the slide. At this point I am just sick of watching him mess with it and still having the same issues. It jammed on me twice when I wasn’t target shooting and one of those was out in the woods in the dark which is a deal-breaker for me. I couldn’t get the safety off without dropping the magazine. My friend has one that the magazine likes to fall out of. Same model.Nothin' to do with being plastic, everything to do with being cheap and a funky design. Guessing it was a PMR30.
