Coyote Attacks! What should I do?

Coyotes keep coming into our yard and trying to get our chickens. We've had so many close calls but I'm worried that it's finally gonna get through the coop. My Salmon Faverolle was taken by him already :( How do I get rid of the coyotes?

I heard you can use wolf pee but it's really expensive! and a little extreme for a couple chickens.

Please help!
 
Coyotes are really bad here. I have super barking dogs and that helps. A lot of the cattle farmers will get a donkey. I guess either a donkey will fight or the coyotes hate them.
I want one so bad.

The OP is in Canada - I'm not sure shooting is an option. I do agree that better fences would be a good place to start. They can be tricky to trap if one doesn't know anything about trapping.

Before I would depend on an animal to defend my flock, I'd look into better fencing, and here in the US it's legal to shoot them (If you're not in a residential area - look into your local laws to be sure).

I would never fully depend on an animal to defend others, and a fence is always a good idea, but with that said my llamas do a knock up job of keeping coyotes at bay... I have witnessed them first hand going on full defense and even offense as a coyote approaches their fence line towards the pasture... They actually advance towards the approaching coyote and hold their ground at the fence line in a stare down... They are not the only line of defense, they just afford me a buffer zone until I can give the coyote some definitive hot lead poisoning...

Unless killed the coyote will continue to return just waiting for an opportunity, and over time they will get more and more comfortable with your property and take more and more chances and risk to get that chicken meal... My mom had one pacing her yard several years ago, each week it pushed closer and closer to the house and clearly became less and less fearful of humans, until one day it came all they way into her enclosed porch and was eating the cat food in the middle of the day... At that point, it had signed it's death warrant... I strongly recommend you consult the laws in your area and see what your options are for permanent disposal of the offending animal because chances are it's going to get worse not better if one is already stalking your chickens...

good for you then, i was raised around them so don't really know much about them being overly vicious creatures
