*If you decide to buy an incubator, don't just look for the cheapest one you can find. Ones with a humidity pump providing constant, correct humidity are worth their weight in gold, but just getting a good incubator can make a huge difference in your success. I'm not saying those cheapy ones won't work, as many have great luck with theirs, but generally speaking, you get what you pay for.
*If you like giving your chickens scratch for a treat, consider buying a bag of Kalmbach's Henhouse Reserve. That's a nutritionally complete layer feed, and most scratch products have minimal nutritional value. They think this is a treat because it has whole grains, unlike their crumble feed. It is more expensive than buying scratch, but it's a complete feed so much better for them. (We raise/breed silkies who can be prone to vitamin deficiencies, and this way ensure they won't be.)
