I always use any pieces of chicken left or some store bought chicken, try to create a funnel on the outside of the run, place your bait in the far end of the funnel then place your trap approx 3 feet out in front of the bait (so they can't reach over the trap to retrieved the bait) and the funnel forces them to cross the trap to get the bait. Just look up "hole-set trap" to see how to bury your trap. Foxes are smart so use rubber gloves setting your traps and try to avoid touching anything with your bare hands.
