coyote came at 9:30! WHY???????

Homemade I guess? Gotta be cheap to have so many going.

They are not to hard to make but as stated as inexpensive as they are I buy mine pre made to conform with Missouri Dept of Conservation regs ... They have to have certain poundage breakaways and deer stops . Deer stops will not allow the cable to close more then 2 1/2 inches this is to keep from snaring deer by the legs if they happen to step through one .

Missouri also mandates that a cable restraint class be taken and passed before anyone can legally use them ... Here is a link to all this info if anyone is interested https://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/downloads/4157_6377.pdf

I get it. That and coyotes are an invasive species in this part of the country. Expanded here after wolves were eradicated.

Coyotes only spread after the Interstate Highway System created a nice grassy path to parts of the country were coyotes could find a home. In this respect coyotes are just like yea old bollweevil they just be looking for a home.

Besides there are buco coyotes in the grassy parts of the West cheek and jowl with brer Wolf.

Even though the wolves kills this male coyote if they didn't share the same range they wouldn't be in conflict.

Live in a suburb pretty much surrounded by forest preserves. Several years ago you could see coyotes strolling down our street and then disappearing across the utility easement. I used to walk quite a bit and saw 3 deer rush past me once- sure enough a coyote was just behind. I doubt he ever caught them.

But they were out anytime day or night, and a lot of cats seemed to be learning the hard way that they were a choice dinner entree . They also freed rabbits from hutches.

I haven't seen any lately but, I know they have moved into other suburbs. When food is really scarce are coyotes prone to eat each other?

When I lived in the suburbs surrounded by trees and a woodland park across the street, I saw coyotes all times of the day especially in the winter when food was scarce. Most common time I would hear them was early morning hours like 4-5 am but they weren't shy about running around in the daylight.

I also noticed they would show up and hang around for awhile and then go silent. I assume that's because they don't over stay in an area once they've ate most of the food available. They move on and come back later, giving the area a rest.

Now that I live in the country, I've yet to hear or see a single a coyote which seems completely bizarre to me! I know they are around because I found scat one time but I also have neighbors that shoot coyotes on sight so maybe they've ran them out of the area. But since I have chickens and small dog, I never let my guard down and always check the perimeter of the yard before letting them out.
