coyote in the driveway!!

I typically don't give this advice, but shoot it (make it a good shot, so it drops then & there). Coyotes are a big problem, and as some body else said, they are smart. around here they are in packs

but luckily they have enough small game that they are still more afraid of people. If this coyote was hanging out in your driveway that is not good. He is used to people and won't be easily dissuaded.

This might sound like a dumb question, but are you sure it was a coyote? Reason I ask is because we have a dog that looks EXACTLY like one, especially if she is out in our field hunting big game... Like mice

But in all seriousness, that would explain why it wasn't worried about the fact that it was out in your driveway in the middle of the day just chillin'. We don't allow our dog to go outside the fenced yard unless she is on a leash or has on her bright orange vest, that's how much she looks like a coyote...

OMGosh.... It must be a good winter we are going to have... same thing at my place Coyotes in broad daylight.... No bounty that I know of here... We just shoot em. I have baby goats and chickens... Coyotes lose.

1: Coyotes will hunt in packs, just smaller packs usually 2 or three.
2: This springs puppies are now leaving their mothers and will stay close to homes that offer free food. Pet food, pets, chickens etc.
3: They adapt very well to "people life". We have all seen the news and newspapers showing coyotes in the middle of towns, even large cities.
4: The southwest has been hit very hard with rabies this year, rabies positive animals lose their fear of humans.
5: They will attack your small pets, ie, cats, small to medium sized dogs, rabbits, and all of your fowl.
6: While they may not immediately attack your children They WILL stalk them and may rush them.
7: They are not your usual neighborhood dog, THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS, I don't care how pretty they are.
8: A gun is the only way to permanently get rid of one. I prefer a .22

We moved out to the 100 acre woods and I realize that they where here first and out in the woods or open fields they are pretty but next to my home and children and animals they are dead.

A 17 HMR does a great job of downing coyotes and many other pests and not to expensive. Also, for anyone out at night looking for predators A good strong flashlight with a RED lens shows the eyes really well at night but doesn't scare the critter away as quickly. Someone said they can't see red?.? Then, if your going to shoot, aim between the eyes. Have a friend who has gotten a couple coyotes and a weasel that way. The new Fireball 17 will take down a coyote at 300 yards if you can hold the gun steady.
