coyote proofing dog run around coop

As long as the little you have in there is well secured, I don't see why it would be a problem!! not that I have done this myself

I'm going to put rocks around mine...Anyways...how is it going with your project?

It's going pretty well. I was hoping to get it ALL finished today, but I kept running into snafus so I only got about 60% finished. I will have to take a little more time. The babies are due to go out in around a week and a half, so I should have plenty of time. Overall, it isn't difficult and this is from a not very experienced person. If you decide to do it, definitely wear work gloves and be sure your apron is completely in place prior to securing. I was thinking it would be a good idea to put pavers around it like others have mentioned. Aesthetically pleasing and one more little security measure!

can't for the life of me lift the dog run enough to feed the hardware cloth underneath.

Try cutting some wooden wedges with a long taper, and tap them in with a hammer.

The amount running up the wall only matters if you are trying to stop something from reaching in​

Brilliant! I may not have to use a taper because I may have enough if for security from the outside. I don't think the inside is too ciritical in that they have adequate areas to go (such as inside the coop itself) if a raccoon pays a call. Again, I thank you for your expertise and time.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me SO much with the reinforcement of my run against coyotes. I wanted to share 2 pictures of the finished product and ask you for advice as far as further proofing it. The second picture shows a corner that does NOT have the hardware cloth running up very high on the nside. It's the only minimally reinforced corner. I'm wondering if I need to reinforce that corner further or if it's fine. Thanks for feedback!

Chickens can easily put their heads through the chain link fence holes. So you do want to add hardware cloth on the lower part of the fencing. Predators will panic the chickens and then when the chickens group in a corner and stick their heads out the predator can easily pull that little precious chicken head off.

Thanks. Actually, I did that today. I decided that it just wasn't that much to do. They'll be inside the (solid wood) coop at night so perhaps sticking their heads through wouldn't have been a problem and perhaps they will learn to huddle IN the coop rather than in the run, but still... better safe than sorry. Like anyone who has lost chickens, I have that feeling like I can't ever go through this again.
