Coyote stalking my coop in daylight (updated dead coyote)

i got various animal controls at the house from crossbows on up to 44 mag rifle

Coyotes are not nomally seen in the daytime, but depending on where you live they may have pups right now and be out anytime looking for food for their pups.

(I have a male that walks across my back yard (along tree line) every morning at about 7 am. He ever walks past when it gets warm enough to go out in my jammies he's gonna be toast)

Unless you have an animal control that does not catch and release you should take care of the problem yourself. It will get in and destroy your flock.

Most animal control won't bother with coyotes unless you are in a expensive suburb Coyotes are not protected and they won't catch and test and release (unless news media are involved Daytime coyotes in the east are becoming common, they have been inbreeding with Eastern Red Wolf, it's been found in their DNA ..... they are taking on and adapting with more wolflike hunting techniques.... They are seen in daytime in Ga. anyway....they are getting bolder and more dangerous..... attacks are becoming more common on pets, children and some have attacked adults (mostly rabid). If you see one, you need to start thinking about protection of property and person. You could get a trap at TS, or get a firearm you know how to use safely. Hotwire will protect coop also. but if yours freerange, coyotes like chicken.....

If you want to eliminate the coyote threat in your area you'll need to quit your day job! It just can't be done. They are everywhere and seeing them in the daytime is not unusual. Eliminating the coyote might create a bigger problem. For instance it might be a parent and if you take it out the other parent and pack members may become even more desperate and troublesome. If it is a lone individual eliminating it will induce a new coyote to move into its territory and the new one may be even more trouble. Or if it is a pack member eliminating it means more pups will survive this year and you will have actually INCREASED the population! The good news is that the season of plenty is just around the corner and all the winter weary hungry predators will be busy eating up lots of other critters besides your chickens. One good (?) thing to remember about coyotes is that they significantly reduce populations of raccoons, foxes, and skunks which are all prone to predating chickens.

In the meantime strong measures to deter this coyote should be taken. Get your dogs to do lots of marking near your chicken area, plenty of poop and urine. And even human urine (funny sounding I know). Movement triggered lights, waving streamers, and noise (like a radio) are all good options. There are other scent deterrents you can order online. If you see the animal again CHASE it screaming and waving your arms in the air and throwing rocks or firing off shots. You will scare the crap out of it. It wants an easy meal not a confrontation. the reason that there are so many coyote now is the fur market went south people quit hunting and trapping them so their numbers have went unchecked it is time to start checking them

if time is a problem for you. maybe you can let a experienced hunter stop by and set up a start eliminating you problem. the way i see it is he can get in a little target practice and you get rid of your heartaches
