Crab apples

Are crabapples like cherries? I tried googling them, but I can't really tell.

I have a young crab apple tree in the part of the property we'll be fencing next year for the geese and ducks, I guess i better put fencing around.

They are apples. They are simply small apples. They can range in size from 2 inches in diameter to the size of peas. Some taste like good eating apples but most are rather tart. So they get cooked with and not eaten fresh.
