LOL Yes, it's amazing what one flick of the head will do! Containing those head movements is very tricky, especially when you're working alone.

She got hurt on 1/31 and here she is on 2/5 - you can definitely still tell something happened, but things filled in pretty fast.

OK, that looks pretty good - bruising goes down fairly quick then and it just knits back together. Excellent. I had visions of the whole thing dropping off like a damaged fingernail! She took her aspirin in some greek yoghurt after being persuaded to try it with mealworms... Such a lovely chicken: her provisional name is Hettie but that might change to Kamikaze or something more daredevil!! Her coopmate has just been renamed Pterry because of the appalling squawk she makes if you try to touch her while she's laying.
Thank youuuuu!!! XXXXX

Yeah- that's what I thought would happen too, which I was dreading because she did this shortly before her chicks hatched! I'm glad she's been a good patient and had her aspirin. There is a pretty good list of daredevil names to choose from.

Finally figured out where these pictures landed ...

Here's 2 weeks after it happened- I was taking pictures of her babies- and wasn't even thinking about her beak at that point because it resolved so quickly. =)

Hi all,
Pleased to report that Hettie's beak is growing back in from underneath the bruised area. She has a new white tip appearing at the front and everything seems to have consolidated together so it's healed! She has been taking quarter baby aspirin tablets from my hand for the last 2 weeks but I think I can stop that now.
Those chicks are absolutely gorgeous - I guess they are all grown up now.

:wee:yesss:

Soooo glad she healed up for you! Chickens are amazing at fixing themselves with the right care and attention. Agree that she definitely doesn't need aspirin anymore.

Thanks for the chicks complement- yes- all grown up. Those were from early February - some have already started laying! Roopert and his girls do a good job making pretty, productive babies. =)
