Hello everyone! Thought I would document this for fun and maybe someone might have some tips also to help this baby hatch! After my broody hen sat on the wrong nest all day one cold day, and after she gave up at the very end, we lost all of the eggs except one CRACKED egg (cracked in the nest) I just knew it’d be dead but it’s still alive! I brought it in the house but do not have an incubator. I’m using a lamp, hot hands under many layers of flannel sheet, water for humidity, inside a rubber tub with lid and blanket on top to keep in heat and humidity. I don’t know the humidity level and using a thermometer to keep the temperature somewhat in check. I’ve had it in the house two nights. Yesterday should have been hatch day but I’m assuming it’s delayed because of the hen not sitting on them. At first, it was wiggling a lot. It has now slowed and is close to the air sac. I can just see the heart beat, so I assume hatching is soon. I’m going to do my best to keep this little chick alive, it seems like a fighter!! I’ll keep you updated and please leave any tips if you have them! I know hatching may be hard since it’s not ideal to not be in an incubator, so any advice I’ll take to try and save it.
