Cracked egg inside our chicken

Hello. Yesterday we noticed that one of our girls had a protruding vent. We separated her from the other cleaned the area with warm water and salt and than applied honey and isolated her in a crate in the dark so she could heal. Well this morning my mom noticed she was egg bound and unfortunately tried to retrieve the egg which cracked inside. She is giving her a warm bath and will be massaging her belly and vent and wrapping her up I warm towels for a bit and putting her back inside the crate. She tried to retrieve as much as the she’ll as possible and I am making up a flush of warm water and vinegar and inserting it into the vent with a large Needle less syringe and than applying Vaseline in and around the vent. I could really use some more tips and a recipe for mash that will help as well with tums and or egg shells? I will be going to the feed store today for penicillin. Could someone help me with additional tips. This just took place about an hour ago.

I would not flush the inside the vent, you risk pushing bacteria back into the oviduct.
Was the shell hard or soft? A very small amount of vaseline or kyjelly around inside the vent.

Does she still have a prolapse - is there tissue still sticking out?
Mash is just a word used for "wet feed" - take a small amount of her normal feed and stir in some warm water, let it sit - make it the consistency of oatmeal at first, you may find your hen likes it with either more/less water. You can stir in some poultry vitamins if you wish and crush a Tums or give 1/2tablet Caltrate for added Calcium. You need to make sure she is drinking very well before you offer food.

If she still has tissue exposed (prolapse), make sure to keep that moist. You can use Raw Honey, anti-inflammatory ointment or hemorrhoid cream.

Thank you!lvery very much ! Well it appears that perhaps the egg is only cracked inside not broken up! So I know an gaced with the issues of having an egg bound hen as well. And yes she still has a prolapsed vent. Could you possibly tell me how many times a day should I be giving her the wet food with the tums? And how many times should I soak her in warm water and massaging the area. Can I still get her an antibiotic just in case if an infection ? I will use the hemmroid cream to keep her vent moistened as well. I really appreciate the hell!

Just give her the Tums or Caltrate 1 time a day. If she will eat, offer the wet mash free choice.

Is she able to poop?

How do you know the egg is cracked inside - are you feeling any sharp pieces inside the vent? If you can get her to the vet, that is the very best thing you can do for her.

Ok thank you. She actually passed the egg. No she’ll is missing. I still would like to give her a fish antibiotic ? You think that’s a good idea in case some leaked out the egg was cracked but all intact. She still has the protruding bet so I will clean and put honey in it and keep her isolated til that heals. I’m so grateful for your help I truly appreciate it.

Do you have a photo of what she passed?
Was it a hard shelled or or shell-less egg?
Did you end up flushing the oviduct with vinegar water like you mentioned in your first post?

It sounds like you are doing good, if you feel that she needs a round of antibiotics after everything, then that would be good.

Hi the egg was hard when it came out and cracked just not broken apart. And it was hard to tell if anything else came out with the egg because she had dumped her water. I’m just worried about her prolapsed issue. I’m hoping she will recover from this as well.
Thank you again

It looks like you were able to get it out whole! That's very good.
Continue to keep the tissue moist and give the prolapse time to reduce, I'm sure she is swollen, then try pushing it back in. She may push it back out, if so, then give her more time.
