When my hen was down eating, one of the others jumped in her nesting box to lay an egg and then began to eat it. She has never done this. I kicked her out but now there is yolk all over the eggs. I candled them last night and they looked good but I am afraid they will get bacteria in them but I I also dont want to wash the bloom off. Help
!! She has been sitting on them for 7 days. What should I do?? She is an australorp mix sitting on ameraucana eggs.

It should be good if yo can’t clean them, you probably need to separate the sitting broody with her eggs. Otherwise might end up on disaster, last spring I didn’t separate one broody and she end up into a fight in the nest when another hen wants to use her nest and lost 3 eggs -broken and a dead hen, since the other got stucked on a nest devider.

My first hatch went horribly - I lost four or so eggs because other hens kicked them out of the box or broke them and ate them. I didn’t clean the eggs off; I’m not sure if that’s what contributed to the very low hatch rate or if lots of them were duds. It didn’t affect the four that developed correctly though; one got kicked out and broken only five days before hatch, one failed to thrive and didn’t finish absorbing the yolk sac and died in the shell, the other two made it wonderfully and lived until a hawk killed them at 8-10 weeks of age.
