I just found this in my run. Must of just happened. It wasn't there earlier. What's really going on 🤔🐔🐓 20250510_102326.jpg

It looks like a hen laid an egg on the ground, then one of them broke it open and ate it.

I have that happen on rare occasions, the finding of an egg not in the nest box. They don't break them though. I'd watch for that if that's what happened so they don't make a habit of it.

Do you know what hen it came from? What are you feeding them?
No. When I purchased these hens only the leghorns were putting out. I know this because the 1st day at the feed store they only had reds. No egg on the ground. When I went back the next day there were 25 or so leghorns in the same run and several eggs. The eggs were white. Doesn't that tell all who laid those/this egg.
This is what I'm feeding them. 20250509_114510.jpg 20250509_114530.jpg

Yes, the white eggs are from the leghorns. If they are starting to lay their first eggs, they might have some soft ones until they get in the hang of it. You can always give them calcium on the side.

If an egg breaks, they will eat it. Thin shelled eggs, or eggs dropped outside are more likely to break.
It’s always a good idea to supplement with oyster shell.
TS offers a product called Nutrena NatureWise Oyster Shell Poultry Supplement 7lbs.
Is this a good product for me to use to help with these issues??

Yes, get some oyster shell. I just put it on the ground in a little pile and they eat it. Or put it in a bowl, but don’t mix it with their regular feed.
