I have noticed about a week ago that I can hear cracking in my drakes stomach...I'm a newbie with ducks. He's 16 weeks if that helps? What could that sound be? My other two ducks are only 8 weeks and I haven't noticed any sound in their stomach... He's been free ranging and eating layer feed. Also cherries, and bananas as treats. Thanks!

I have heard a cracking sound in duck tummies. Scary. Haven't heard it in a while, but I spend less time with the ducks in the evening than I did when they were younger.

I stared at the duck, listened, watched . . . everything turned out fine to my recollection. I think it may be something in their digestive tract being worked on. Did the cherry have a pit in it? Mine may have been working on a hickory nut. Wow, did I get nervous watching her swallow that thing whole. I did not notice it before she said, "down the hatch!"

He did eats some cherry pits and I think he gets some from the ground too. Whenever I feed him I make sure to pit them. :)

I'd guess that it may be coming from his gizzard, which is the muscular 'bag' where they grind up food using stones that they pick up from the ground. So I'd agree with Amiga that your drake is working on something in there. The cherry pits are a very likely candidate.

My ducks eat cherry pits too, because their pen is underneath a big cherry tree, and the cherries fall into their pen through the wire roof. Usually they nibble the cherry from around the pit, but now and then they eat one whole too. It never does them any harm.

Thanks! Glad to know he's fine! :)
