I went out to the coop this morning, about 6am, and there was this egg laying in the middle of the floor... not where she usually lays.
At first, I thought it was cracked from being bounced around, but I don't think so. There isn't any leakage. The cracks are more like...how clay dirt seperates from being baked in the sun. Anyone seen anything like this? They get lots of oyster shell, eat well, usually have good strong eggs. Maybe I am wrong, and it is just plain old cracked eggs, also it wasn't below the roost, like it was dropped and rolled.

and the other side, it was sitting on this side, must have picked up stains from the straw

Any chance it was able to freeze? I have one hen that lays from her roost. The ample shavings cushion the egg's fall but it is cold enough at floor level that eggs will freeze and split if left for too long. Occasionally she will lay after I put them to bed for the night and eggs that spend all night on the floor will develop little cracks.
