Well, uh, I bought her........ and she is currently in quarantine (although one of my other chickens doesn't seem well so I may need to find a second quarantine set up).

She was in with a flock of EEs, a Buff Orpington, and a Black Australorp, but all seemed to be crossed with something (the BO and BA had feathers on their legs). The family I bought her from had just purchased their flock from a farm the day before but wanted BRs instead of this one. I am no expert but the only thing that really looks rooster on this bird is the spurs. They original sellers claimed that it lays blue eggs and is only four months old. So, uh, it's a mystery. It does look like she might have some Houdan in her......

I will try to get more photos on the weekend when I have better light.

Hens do grow spurs and that usually is what makes some think a "SHE" is a "HE". It usually is an age thing. Kinda like a grandma with a mustache starting.

It looks like a really old mixed breed hen. Probably polish x silkie with something else in there somewhere.

The ad stated it was 4 months old I think. Even though you may give the person a break in not telling the full truth because they have an out in that they did not raise the chick themselves. Maybe they were duped also.

Can you believe someone on craigslist would lie about the age of a chicken? NOOOO!

I think that an older chick with spurs gives them the "farm-girl" toughness that is just as appealing as the super beauties.

I have Welsummer pullets with spurs. Not quite as large as what is shown in the picture but they are over 1/2" long at 9 months of age.

The bird is obviously not 4 months old but it's possible it's not an "old bird with hormonal issues" either.

They are wrong about the breed and the age. They are either lying or really don't know what they're talking about. If you like the bird, buy it, but know that you are getting a mutt hen that's at least a year or two old. She's pretty. To me, she's about $5-6 worth of pretty.
