Craigslist is starting to suck. Scam?

This has actually been going on for awhile. This kind of scam is very popular in the cars section as well as pets. I never reply any information to these low lifes

You may want to put in your Craigslist ad for the potential buyer to type in a certain word in the SUBJECT line of their email, so that you will know that it's not spam. I have been noticing that a lot.

I put in my ads that I will respond to email only if they refer specifically to my ad.

I don't answer any generic type responses, because that gives the spammer your email address. They don't get your address just from responding to your craigslist ad. I want them to say something about the item and say something that indicates they've read the ad.

If you do get sucked into answering one of those guys who wants to send you a money order, if you really feel you must answer them, tell them fine, but it will take 30 days to clear your bank and no shipment until after it clears. They'll then go away because you aren't playing to their rules. Best not to answer them, though.

Yep, scam and you'll be loaded with spam most likely if you reply. I do not reply to any craigslist inquiries unless the buyer says what they are interested in and has specific questions.

Do you still have this?

or

I like this, do you still have it?

my hubby got one of those, sounds almost the same.

the guy said he'd have someone pick it up and pack it for shipping.

we were selling a Hay Barn...

Hubby hadn't encountered one of these before, but REALLY who SHIPS a hay barn?

I suspect he got picked because the amount he was asking was high enough to interest the scammers.

Yep, that is definitaly a scam. It happens a lot with craigslist, unfortunatley. If the people dont refer to the specific item you are selling, then chances are it is just a scammer at play.

I get similar all the time when I post rental property ads. Like I am really going to rent a place to some one I have never met and is flying over from the UK and needs an UNfurnished apartment before they arrive.

A Long time ago, I got the old Nigerian "Ooops I over paid" email, of course they had not even paid yet. I offered to send them back something we would "compost" in their "prepaid" USPostalFedx box. Oddly, they did not reply. Guess their English was good enough to understand what I was going to send them...hehe
