I was trolling craigslust this morning going the peafowl ads in regards to hatching eggs and came across some interesting facts that I think all here should be made aware of. There is a new mutation called a "piebald" as evidenced by this ad. http://bloomington.craigslist.org/grd/5034935853.html

There is also a new color in Milwaukee called a "Green shoulder" as evidenced by this ad,,https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/grd/5054769303.html I think I better plan a road trip since they are so close to me.

This ad must have a new fangled device that can see inside the developing egg https://westernmass.craigslist.org/grd/5059540037.html as they state after two weeks of incubation they are doing well.

Another listing I ran across says you will get pied chicks from their eggs because they have a white peahen in with their india blue male. We are behind the times here I guess with all these new colors and mutations out there,,yes?

New2,,that is about as unique as it gets. Detachable tails now.He does look nice crammed in the corner tho,,wonder if he has a detachable tape recorder so he's also quiet during breeding season?

I many times use the term peacock chick or peacock hen just because folks give me a blank stare when I say peachick or peahen! ;). Then their little faces dawn with understanding!

I also seen a spawlding Blackhawk peacock, I surely wanted 1 of those.

I say that at school about peachick or peahen and I get the, "Is he making this up?" look, or the "He's crazy" look. I found an ad on Craigslist a while back of someone trying to sell White peachicks, the problem was, they were BS. You could see in the photo there was color in the primary feathers.

Oh yes don't forget the white peafowl which are RARE albinos! I have no idea how white peafowl became thought of as a rarity. When you see a white dog you don't say, "Oh look at that rare albino dog!" although one girl once said that about our white dog.

I will never forget being at the parrot rescue and this lady and her husband were visiting and they own a parrot rescue in another state. Well the parrot rescue here has a few peacocks roaming the grounds but they hardly know anything about them so I had been telling them that one was pied, etc. This lady who was visiting was trying to say that the white peacock was a rare albino and I explained that the white is just a variety and they are actually not rare at all. She got very defensive with me and disagreed as if I know nothing about birds.

Sometimes when I tell people that I have 3 white peafowl they freak out as if that is so rare. I have seen people price white peafowl at high amounts and I am guessing because of the misconception that white peafowl are rare albinos some people will actually pay a high price for some whites.

Don't forget about when you see green peafowl for sale on craigslist and they have photos of the parents which is a 50% spalding pictured with maybe a 10% spalding.

I say you should always bother to use the proper terms for peacocks such as peahen, peachick, peafowl, etc and then explain to people what it means. I think it is good to educate people even if it might seem silly to even bother.
