I agree with the choices, if they are Jersey Giants they are small ones, however, given that the others are obviously production/industrial quality , it is possible.
Well, i have made a disturbing discovery about these ladies, well, two of them anyways. The couple we got them from said they are not all laying as they only get a couple eggs a day or every other day. They all sure look to be laying age, so that didn't make any sense to me. He said they were going into winter, so egg production may be down due to that.
So first morning we had them, i was outside when i heard an egg drop. i sprinted over and saw the two small girls, the red and the gingery-colored one, in the box, frantically pecking at an egg. i opened the lid and reached in, but i was too short to reach the egg, all i could do was push those girls away. So i'm pushing them, one then the other, constantly, as they kept throwing themselves back to get at that egg. They were beyond determined. i screamed for my husband until he came running and grabbed the egg while i kept the girls at bay. Then this morning, i was out of town, but my husband saw one of them trying to stick her beak under the others bloomers while she was laying. He managed to snag two eggs, and if there were more, they got them.
So i have egg eating chickens! Ack! i read somewhere on this forum about someone blowing eggs then filling them with mustard and something else, then putting them in the nests. The egg eater got a snootful of that and stopped the nasty habit. i need to find that post and get those replacement eggs ready tonight. i can't have them eating all the eggs, or teaching my other girls to do the same.
