i totally scored on craigslist today with a chicken tractor which includes five laying hens. Here it is (pics are from the listing, showing their nice backyard. Mine is not so pretty).

Of the five hens, one is a Rhode Island Red, then there is a large yellow one, a gingery colored one, and two HUGE black ones. Can anyone tell me what these might be?

Here is the ginger penciled colored one:

Here is that large yellow orangish one:

And here are two pics of the big black girls:

    That's awesome!

    My guesses:

    Red: RIR
    Black: australops
Brown: buff orpington (if white legs), buff rock (if yellowy legs)
    brown with white: Gold/Red sexlink.

I second silkiechicken's guesses, and add that if the black ones are really big maybe they are Jersey Giants?

But whatever they are, they are gorgeous! AWESOME CL score! [IMG]

If the blacks are JGiants the bottom of their feet will be yellow.

i will have to check the bottom of the black girl's feet tomorrow morning. i looked up astralorps and jersey giants on the net and they both look like they could be right.

That yellow one does have white legs - BIG white legs, so i guess i have a buff orpington, which i have always wanted.

The cool thing is that they are all healthy and friendly. The people who gave them up really loved them, but the husband's elderly mother just moved in and it all became overwhelming for them to deal with. i didn't think i wanted this many chickens. But now we are considering reconfiguring our yard. Veggies out in front, chickens get the back.

The first one is a red sexlink, then Buff Orp, then either Jersey Giant or Australorps, depending on the color of the soles of their feet.

    Great deal..........
Does the tractor actually let the chickens on the grass - it looks really high up - I'm not sure of the point of a tractor if not to move the chickens from one spot of the grass to the next..........

Well, the husband built it so they could roll it around the yard, then the whole front opens down so the chickens can walk out and range. So it's not officially a chicken tractor, just a chicken semi or metro-line to move them around the yard. i think it looks like a chicken traveling carnival show.
