Your Welcome!

did they all arrive ok?

Ok.. Need some help here. I have this cochin rooster. I was told Lemon Blue but maybe not just blue under coat and the lemon color up top. I am new to cochins so your input will help. Sorry if I post in the wrong spot but I find this thread more helpfull.

So this rooster over.....

Opp, photobucket is down. I will post picture of roo in a little.

I have the following hens

6 Part Cochins (standard)

1 Spalsh (I think Bantam. The rooster towers over her. I am thinking I will get blue chicks as well)

1 Black from a blue line ( I am thinking the two will throw, blue chicks as well)

3 White

and I think I have two black.

So too many hens for one roo. Who should I put with the rooster to make the best offspring.

Tks everyone....

Oooh, Monkeyingaroundfarm - genetics are my favorite part of breeding birds!

The first question is whether your roo is a "true" Lemon-Blue, bred from a Brown-Red, or if he's actually a "Blue-Buff", which comes from a Blue x Buff mating and is basically genetically a Blue with Buff "leakage". If he's a Blue-Buff (which is just as pretty, and much more common), I think putting him over the Splash hen should give you Splash and Blue chicks, putting him over the Black hens will give you Blue and Black chicks (Black from a Blue line doesn't mean anything - the way Andalusian Blue genetics work, if the bird HAS a Blue dilution, the bird IS Blue. A Black bird cannot be carrying Blue.) I'm assuming here (not having seen the picture yet - Photobucket sure has been finicky lately, hasn't it?) that the rooster is carrying Blue....and if he is Blue-Buff, all the Blue, Black, and Splash chicks he throws are likely to have the Buff leakage as well (I think a Splash with Buff "highlights" would be really pretty

). I'm not sure what you'd get putting him over the Partridges or whites.

Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Nothing?? Wow!

Well just for poops and giggles I'll list something. About the only thing I'm getting 'regularly' is quail eggs, most of my chickens are still free ranging. However, I do have a pen of d'uccles, 3 porcelain hens, 1 black mottled hen, 2 porcelain roos, and a black mille fleur roo. I just recently got most of the porcelains, that's why the hen:roo ratio is a bit low
hmm.png
None of the porcelains has laid an egg yet, and I've had them almost a week. The black mottled hen hasn't laid an egg either since I got the porcelains, but she's not very reliable with laying to begin with.

Known laying hens are a LF black cochin, a white leghorn, a splash dutch bantam, a golden lakenvelder, a black EE bantam (not blue eggs unfortunately), and various LF and bantam old english games. Possibly a bantam splash cochin, I'm not sure if she's started yet. Oh, and a partridge bantam cochin
smile.png
All LF OEG hens are wheaton, blue wheaton, and BB Red. All bantam OEG hens are blue or black.

Possible roos are a LF cochin/OEG mix, a Barred Rock, a LF OEG/bantam dutch mix, a blue bantam cochin, a black mottled bantam cochin, a mille fleur d'uccles, 2 blue bantam EE, a lemon blue OEGB, blue dutch, black rosecomb, blue OEGB, black OEGB, spangled OEGB, brassyback OEGB, ginger red OEGB, and I think that's it
lol.png

As stated before, they are all free ranging except for the d'uccles. Here is a list of flock 'dynamics' (who stays with whom normally):

LF cochin, leghorn, lakenvelder, LF OEG hens: LF cochin/OEG mix, BR, OEG/dutch mix, bantam EE
bantam EE & OEGB hens: All OEGB roos (except for the black) plus the black rosecomb bantams
Splash dutch hen/mille fleur d'uccles roo
partridge cochin hen/black mottled cochin or spangled OEGB
if the splash cochin is laying, she stays side-by-side with the blue cochin roo

I'm getting 6-12 eggs daily from the chickens
smile.png

In addition to these I'm also getting 1-2 pekin duck eggs daily, 1-4 button quail eggs daily, and up to 20 coturnix quail eggs daily. I have guineas as well, but I haven't found any fresh nests in a while, they usually start sitting them before I get them
sad.png

Okay, so the deal is, you will get every egg laid here for the whole day. Up to 1 dozen chicken (LF/bantam mixed or pure), 1-2 duck, 1-4 buttons, and up to 20 coturnix. This should be interesting

Monkeyingaroundfarm sorry it took so long to get back on here. was in the hospital with my middle dd all week last week while they were hatching and this week we have been dealing with a frail gma who passed to the other side on wednesday so no time to post.

anyway, out of the 6 eggs two didn't start, two were starters and quitters and two hatched. of which i had to help one. seems it was a sticky chicky. its been a week and they are still doing well. i was hoping for more but at least i got two. LOL. to add to my other two. hoping they are hens but we will see.
smile.png
i did get four of my own eggs to hatch beautiful nakey necks(not pure by any means but still cute as heck) and im glad that out of those four i got a dark colored one. the ones i hatched before were all yellow.

anyway, i am done hatching for this year. i am hoping to hatch more BCM next spring... so hopefully you are still around to sell
smile.png
id love to do more of your eggs. you package great, your egg color is awesome and shipping time was perfect
smile.png

Thanks for giving me the opportunity. I just don't have any money left at this time after the week long stint in the hospital.
