well i want either white or buff color and i want them to be bearded. and depending on price, showgirl. im not much on the blue black splashes. and i wonder if, with 4H when you start if you have to start with chicks. and if you can start in the fall????

I only had two silkie chicks make it. Tey are both black. At this young age, it is difficult to see if bearded. I also have 5 BCM booted from nice dark eggs, 4 Frizzles (one white, 2 black and The other looks to be white with some black. Hard to tell still drying out). I have two blue's (one is blue other is black). Anyone interested. Can ship out today. You should get on Monday.

You can start whenever you want, however, you want to keep in mind when shows in your area happen. For instance, around here we have two shows in Sept. and one in October, so I wanted my birds to be old enough to show by then. Sometimes there are Spring shows as well, so chicks from the Fall would be old enough to show in those. If you get chicks now and have to wait until next Fall to show them, they may go into molt and not be in show condition.

I'm not sure what kind of notes you mean, but keeping records is always helpful. Your 4-H club leader may be able to get you a poultry project book to keep notes in.
