Crazy biology question

I have read that egg making is a 26 hour process. I have also read that various factors affect egg laying such as temperature changes, changes in habitat, stress, etc. So here is my question...imagine it is hour one of 26 and the egg starts down the canal. Things are happy and comingnalong and then half way through stress happens. Does everything just stop? Does the chicken just will it to stop? Once it starts down the canal can it be stopped? Do they just h old it in?

I think it depends how far along it is... But often when you move a chicken it will lay that day, but then stop for a week or 2. So stress is a big factor. Hope that helps
