HI I am Sharri I a from MN and I just became a mamma to 9 chickens it's been a month now not sure what I am doing but it must be right! I have so many questions but will only ask 1 it is almost freezing here and pouring rain is it ok to keep them locked up? I don't want them getting soaked then getting frostbite!

The 'crazy' part helps when it comes to backyard chicken keeping.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Cold and wet won't hurt them, just make sure they have a cozy coop to go hide and dry off in. My hens have been running around in the rain for the past few weeks and they got soaked a few times, but they're O.K.

It's cold and rainy here today too - not as cold as MN but relatively speaking. Our 3 (2.5 month old) chickens are out today and keep going back into their coop when they feel like it. It's their first rain and they seem to love it. They have an A Frame tractor so they are underneath. Not directly in the rain but it's still wet out there. I also have put apple cider vinegar in their water in an effort to minimize the chance of getting a cold. I read on this site that it's a preventative:>

Thank you everyone for the greetings they made me smile! I hope to make many chicky friends!
