Exciting news!! Franny has successfully hatched 1 of her 3 eggs...here's to hopefully the others hatching in the next few days. Also Willow laid her first two eggs. Hopefully I can get some chick photos soon, but she is set too far back right now.

Also Crown is now officially declared a hen. Had some suspicions with the size of one of my brown eggs, but originally thought it was someone taking a short break after a few double yolkers. With the number and color of brown eggs today, I can now confirm that she is a she. Luckily her name can be gender neutral.✌️

Why do chickens always pick the worst days to have issues? Saw a glimpse of the chick that was suspicious for pasty butt and of course the temps drop today when I am trying to treat. My hands are so cold right now with the time it took to soak and remove the feces without soaking the chick. Luckily they are hanging out under Franny right now to stay warm.

Another cold snap moving through. Three days of below freezing weather with chance of snow, so I started winterizing the run. Set up a new feeder with corn mixed in and tossed a bale of straw out and separated the flakes. Everyone had lots of fun helping cover the run floor. I plan to put another tarp up later to cover more of the run and some pallets on the side to block the wind.

Definitely wasn't expecting this mess when I got home. Of course it was also raining when I got back with temperatures dropping in the afternoon. Silver lining is that no one was hurt amd I have enough space in the standing runs and coops that I can work with out this one for a little while. At least until it warm up enough for me to salvage.

Surprise! I thought I had finally figured out everyone's gender. I was 99% certain that one of my americauna's was a roo. I was actually kind of excited thinking I could start getting new egg colors depending on which hens he fertilized. Lo and behold though, I got 2 blue eggs yesterday and two days ago. Guess who was a late starter on laying. She was originally named Oak and now is called Rowan.

Also an update on the run situation. I will probably be scrapping most of the run. A majority of the joints are broken and useless. Now I am in contact with a builder to discuss building a more sturdy and weatherproof run.

Crown was in quite a tizzy this morning. She was put in the coop with her mother and baby sister last night, and as soon as I let her out this morning she ran straight to the big girls coop. Zipped back and forth at the door, until I could get over there to open it, and then immediately ran into the coop. I'm assuming she really wanted to lay an early morning egg, even though she had full access to a perfectly good nest in the coop that she slept in last night.
