Followed by a new brooder set up

Well, it was time...or at least I made it that time. The chicks have been moved outside for good....unless there is a sudden drop in temperature again. They could probably have hung out a bit longer in the house, but they were starting to stink and were just so active and big. I had to do a bit of rearranging the sleeping and housing arrangements. I am still waiting on my run to be built, so the grower run isn't available for a secure pen until that is up. The quarantine run is currently in use with a flock of orpingtons and a roo that I am holding for a friend. So tonight, I put the chicks in the brooder pen for the next few weeks-a month and put Franny and Gandalf in with the main flock. I'm not particularly pleased with the arrangement due to the hierarchy between the main flock and Gandalf in close quarters. I'll be keeping a close eye on them for the next few weeks. If I can get some of the neighbor kids to close all the pens nearer to dark, I can leave them in the main yard for longer, to reduce the likelihood of fighting.

I finally got around to getting picks of most everyone yesterday morning.

This is a flock of Orpingtons I am currently housing while a friend set's up her coop and run. You can see the male and two of his hens, but there are three more somewhere behind the coop. He is so handsome and the girls are beautiful as well. I'll be taking two of his hens from a smaller, separated flock when this one leaves.

The four on the left are part of my permanent flock. This pic includes Gem (RIR), Gandalf (Black Copper Maran Roo), Fancy (Grey "roadside" Leghorn?), and Crown (speckled half silkie). Gandalf is the youngest in this photo as he hatched back in December. He is finally getting his big boy feathers in though. I'm half hoping that having the Orpington Roo might entice him to start crowing soon.

These are the youngest I have in my permanent flock right now. Everyone has nearly quadrupled in size. When I moved them out this week, I could barely fit them in my hand. The two white ones have obtained bars on their wings, while the two black sex linked are finally catching up to the others in size. I'm pretty sure my last two are some type of easter eggers. I was pretty confused when the grey didn't darken and his breed twin didn't show any grey.
