Crazy idea but - bubble wrap on coop floor (covered with bedding)

I was going to suggest same as Dusty chicken. Also, when you have to change it, the cardboard just goes into the compost along with the bedding and manure.

I used oilcloth on the floor of my coop. Amazon sells it by the yard, 47" wide and it was $7.50 per yard. Not expensive, and it does the job. I've only had it for 3 months, but the chickens have dug holes in the bedding down to the oilcloth, and so far it shows no scratch damage at all. I agree with others about not using bubble wrap. That kind of thin plastic tears easily - they'll rip it up while scratching, then eat the shredded pieces. Also, cleaning it would be a pain - stuff can stick between the bubbles... just too much texture for effective cleaning. Oilcloth is thick and heavy.
