Crazy Laying

On the first of September my plymouth rock was making a bunch of noise and she went up to the nesting box and pretty much made a mess in the nest and returning back and forth and squawking and didn't lay an egg. So, yesterday apparently she running around and just layed the egg in the run and not in a corner just right on the ground. I thought that was really weird, I'm wondering will she keep doing this?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Was it her first egg? They sometimes freak out for the first couple times. Eventually they find their way. Chickens like to lay where others have laid. I find fake eggs or golf balls work really well when training them where you want them to lay their eggs.
