We're having the same issue. We only have half what we need for winter currently. Still waiting for a few places to tell us what they have left after their first buyersI'm in Missouri and work with horses so only deal with bales of Alfalfa as well as "grass hay".
I know a few guys that bale hay. This hay season had a rough start here because of lack of significant rain. Most I talked to said first cuttings were only producing about a 1/3 of the bales any given property usually gave.
That's the same amount of time, fuel etc. to get 1/3 of the bales. Supply and demand.
I only have a teeny tiny garden shed to store it in. No garage or other out building. I use a local coop for all other food/supplies, but they only sell bales. Plus they aren’t wrapped and I’m only feeding 4 adult rabbits and babies so they can’t eat it fast enough before it gets stale. You need to find your local hay suppliers for livestock. Better hay for less.
