I have 6 chicks that we got from the same hatchery. 2 Amerecaunas, 2 Buff Orps, and 2 bantam silkies. All are the same age, but their behavior is so different. I'm a little worried about the silkies. The other 4 are generally mellow, like to be held, play hard and sleep hard. The silkies are crazy busy all the time. They spend most of their time digging to China in the pine bedding, digging in the little dirt bath I gave them, chirping like crazy, and running around the brooder. The other 4 have started sleeping on the little dowel in the brooder, but the silkies hardly sleep at all and never on the dowel. It's like they have ADHD! Is that normal for the breed?

i just got 7 of them and they are the most laid back and calm ones of all 10 chicks

you have some very energetic babies lol

Hmmm, well, maybe they will just be the most entertaining of the 6! I keep throwing stuff in the brooder to keep them occupied - jasmine flowers, oatmeal, more dirt, etc. I'm looking forward to the day they can spend all day outside :)

I have 13 chicks from Ideal Poultry, three weeks old yesterday, and the 4 white Silkie chicks are the most hyper and skittish. The 8 New Hampshire pullets are the largest and calmest. The barred rock pullet is in between. However, the Silkies do sleep hard after playing hard. :)

Hey! I ordered a Silkie from IDEAL too!

Mine came from Privett (via our local feed store). They really are very cute - just a little hyper :)
