Today, I got my first ever blue egg from my pullet Hope. I went to pic eggs from others and there she was standing up to lay and literally laid as soon as I opened the nest door. Otherwise I would have always kept wondering which pullet it was.

Here is a pic of her egg with others's as well

AWESOME Blue color -- now get one of those chicken shipping boxes and put Hope in it and send her to me ---- now.....;O)

I know there is an allowed variance in down coloration but I would still love to hear more. Are your male chicks always that dark? Do you have pics as they age like maybe juvenile pics as well as adult? Just curious because my chicks as of current are colored differently so I would love to hear more feed back on chick coloration. My males are mostly very pale so I was curious. Also another thing I noted from your chicks is the whitish faces, does that play a part at all later in adult color?

Seems like my autumn hatches are darker. Especially the dorsal stripe...and I have a lot of dark pigment in the tails and neck hackles in my flock (another reason I want Junibutt to send me Hope!! -- Maybe I will just have to settle for some hatching eggs next spring. )

I remember the first time I had a late hatch -- and it was a shocker -- 'has anyone ever hatched a 'black Cream Legbar?' I need to stop referring to mine as cream - it is just a habit......

For my chick downs, I do have a range of colors -- I will dig up some older pictures to post.... Of late....I do have the dark types of down.

One chick with the lightest/whitest face -- like none I had previously - grew to the darkest hackles -- for awhile.... -- now she is lightening --
here is her chick pict. (you may also detect the Frida Kahlo eyebrows too). She had the most contrast of any chick I ever hatched.





I guess, I should say too -- that the lighting on those last couple of day's chicks was pretty dark. I will try to get a more accurate color representation (not Frida - she was in good light -- she was very black and white)...the others are more buff and brown than black and white like she was.

Just curious, what do you see in hope that you don't see in FAITH? (that could be a good analogy as well haha!) BTW their siblings are growing up and are 16 weeks in case you are interested:)
